Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing (also known as kiteboarding) is a relatively recently invented water sport that has grown rapidly, garnering significant interest from casual and extreme sports enthusiasts. Kitesurfing is very much like wakeboarding where you ride a small surf board while being towed behind the boat and you ‘ride the wake.’ With kitesurfing you are not towed by a boat but use a kite similar to a parachute and have 360 degree control of where you go and how fast you go there!

Kitesurfing in the Dominican Republic is increasingly popular mostly along the north coast where the waves, surf and wind offer very favorable conditions. In fact, the Dominican Republic has been the site of many international competitions for kitesurfing which further underscores its near perfect conditions.

Located in the city of Cabarete, about 15 minutes from Sosua and 60 minutes from Cabrera, is the famous ‘Kite Beach,’ so named because of its superb conditions for the sport. Scattered along this area of the Dominican Republic are several kitesurfing centers offering everything from sales and rentals to schools for newbies or the experiences seeking further education.

Near the town of Cabrera is the long beach of La Entrada. La Entrada is still a fairly remote beach but rivals Cabarete in the wind and surf provided. Several kitesurfers and windsurfers have ventured to La Entrada and proclaim it to be one of the next great destinations in the Dominican Republic.
